Cedric & Tyler's Elegant ‘Broadway meets Beyoncé’ Watergate Wedding

Cedric and Tyler’s love and joy for one another was contagious! We were so excited to be able to create with them for every step of their wedding day, starting with fun, custom save the dates. We illustrated a skyline of where they met, the Nashville Performing Arts Center and where they were to wed, The Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. Then added one of their favorite places, the Kennedy Center, lit up with pride colors. Everything was printed on shimmer paper to give it some shine!

For their wedding invitations, we wanted to to have them be elegant and modern. Pulling inspiration from the stunning architectural lines of the Watergate Hotel, we drew accent lines that were raised in copper thermography along with their names. The racing green enclosure/pocket backing was sealed with a real copper belly band that mimicked the arching lines of the Watergate.

The rest of each card was letterpressed onto shimmer, linen card stock. Their monogram was made into a return address embosser, which we applied to the back flaps of the envelopes. Invitations opened to reveal a custom liner made from a pattern of their modern monogram representing each of their last names. #swoon!

Each envelope was hand written with copper metallic ink by Emily van der Linde.

“My husband and I couldn’t be more happy with our experience with Type A Invitations! Ashleigh understood our vision and created amazing works of art that were beyond our expectations.”

With many guests coming from out of town, Cedric and Tyler wanted to give each of them a warm welcome to set the tone for their wedding weekend with informational cards that were placed in individual welcome bags.

Each of their table names were one of their favorite musicals complete with a custom illustration to represent each one. A large seating chart poster guided guests to their seats. The menus were customized to have Cedric and Tyler presenting the musical in which their guest was “starring” in along with that guest’s specific entrée choice, so fun!

Signage was designed to combine the outline of the landscape illustration from their save the dates with the Watergate lines from their wedding invitation.

All forms of performance art were celebrated including a live band and acrobatics!

After their wedding, I asked them what their favorite part was. Tyler told me that was a hard question, but that one of their favorite parts was their drag Beyoncé impersonator’s performance! I mean, who wouldn’t want to slay with Queen B on their wedding day?! And yes, that is a tray of cash money wrapped with their monogram, served on a silver platter to guests to make it rain!! #seriousweddinggoals

“It’s been a few months since our wedding and we still have friends and family commenting on our stationery. Thank you Type A!”
