so, how did ‘type a’ start?
In 2015, Ashleigh was starving for more connection with her day-to-day work as a Senior Graphic Designer for a well-known firm in Washington, D.C. As much as she thought that “it was ‘the place’” she felt a need to connect with others more joyfully and meaningfully. Enter Divine Intervention! But, first a rewind…
It’s Spring of 2014, and Ashleigh lands her “dream job!”. That Summer, she meets her “dream guy!” (‘Ahem, Brian) and then…
…she gets really fucking sick. Like pissing blood, then emergency colonoscopy sick. The emergency part was after months and months of seeing specialist after specialist to figure out what was causing so much pain in her lower abdomen. After months of being dismissed as a “healthy young woman” by male after male. Being told things such as, “You probably sprained something playing lacrosse.” or, a personal favorite, “Are you on your period?” Her body forced a colonoscopy (which she previously wasn’t a candidate for). Dr. Martin Bashir found a pre-cancerous serrated adenoma in her descending colon and removed it. When Dr. Bashir came into the room where Ashleigh was anxiously awaiting with her mother, he asked them to sit down. He then told them about his findings, and that had they not removed it, she would’ve been dead in ten years. (That was when she 26. As of writing this, I’m 36).
Ashleigh found this out about a week after being fired… from the “dream job.” So, after being “let go” because “her illness was impacting her performance.” as her Art Director finally caved and told her the truth of it. She decided that she never wanted to beg anyone to tell her why she was no longer deserving enough. She never wanted to feel that way again. Especially during a time when she was also experiencing true love for the first time–like soulmate for real love–she yearned to use her design and art powers to spread TRUE LOVE!
In the summer of 2015, with Brian’s support, Ashleigh decided to start an invitation company that focused on completely custom designs stemming from the uniqueness of our client's individuality. Type A Invitations, we create whatever you want - even if you don't know what that is yet.
